Community Assistance Program Toolkit

Toolkit Purpose

This toolkit provides promotional and educational materials to help service providers understand and share information about Autism Canada’s Community Assistance Program (CAP).

What Is CAP?

Autism Canada’s Community Assistance Program (CAP) provides subsidized financial support to reduce barriers to care for Autistic people through approved service providers, subject to available program funding.

Who Is Eligible?

CAP may support people across Canada including:

  • Autistic children, youth, and adults

  • Families and caregivers supporting Autistic people

Applications are reviewed based on:

  • Demonstrated need

  • Type of service requested

  • Provincial fee standards

  • Existing funding sources

  • Overall application volume

What CAP Can Help Fund

CAP may help fund eligible services that are not fully covered through public funding, private insurance, or other funding sources.

  • Assessment Funding (up to $2,000 per calendar year)

    • Psychological assessments for diagnostic or clarifying purposes

    • Please note that assessment must not be started or completed prior to approval

  • Support Services (up to $1,000 per calendar year)

    • Speech language, occupational, or behavioural supports

    • Mental health supports including counselling, psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, or trauma informed care

    • Transition supports for Autistic youth and adults, including life skills development, employment readiness, post secondary preparation, and community based programming Respite services

    • Neurodivergent focused camps or programming

How It Works

  1. Find a Registered CAP Service Provider

  2. The Service Provider will complete and submit the application

  3. The Autism Canada CAP team reviews the application

  4. If approved, a formal agreement is signed

  5. Services are delivered and invoiced by the provider
