Autism Canada and RioCan are teaming up to provide an inclusive Santa experience at RioCan properties for the 2023 Holiday season. Autism Canada’s training team will work closely with RioCan to prepare our onsite teams, Santa, and the helpers to work with any child and caregiver who requires sensory support during Santa visits.
"We had the pleasure of working with some truly exceptional Santas and their helpers last year," said Dominique Chabot, Family Support Manager at Autism Canada. "It's refreshing to see how important it is to them to provide a safe space for children on the spectrum and their caregivers. As a parent of two children on the spectrum, I truly appreciate RioCan's efforts to make their properties accepting and inclusive, especially during the busy Holiday shopping season."
Given that 1 in 50 people in Canada are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum disorder, it is important for everyone to understand the impact that overwhelming and emotional situations can have on persons with neurodivergence or autism, “By better understanding neurodivergence and autistic needs and behaviours, we can create more inclusive and welcoming spaces that provide all community members a manageable and safe experience.”

PARTENARIAT ENTRE AUTISME CANADA ET RIOCAN POUR LES VISITES SENSORIELLES AVEC LE PÈRE NOËL
Autisme Canada et RioCan s’associent pour offrir une expérience inclusive du Père Noël dans les propriétés de RioCan pour la saison des Fêtes 2023.
L’équipe de formation d’Autisme Canada travaillera en collaboration avec RioCan pour préparer les équipes sur place, le Père Noël et les aidants à travailler avec tout enfant et parent qui a besoin d’un soutien sensoriel lors des visites du Père Noël.
« Nous avons eu le plaisir de travailler avec des Pères Noël exceptionnels et leurs aides l’an dernier », Dominique Chabot, gestionnaire du soutien familial à Autisme Canada. « Il est rafraîchissant de voir à quel point il est important pour eux d’offrir un espace sûr aux enfants sur le spectre d'Autisme ainsi qu'aux parents. En tant que parent de deux enfants sur le spectre, j’apprécie les efforts de RioCan pour rendre leurs propriétés acceptantes et inclusives, en particulier pendant la saison de magasinage des Fêtes. »
Étant donné qu'une personne sur cinquante au Canada reçoit un diagnostic d'un TSA, il est important que tout le monde comprenne l’impact que les situations accablantes et émotionnelles peuvent avoir sur les personnes neurodivergentes ou d’autisme.
