Autism Canada’s Inclusion by Design program for camps, parks, and recreation supports teams in creating inclusive, accessible experiences for Autistic and neurodivergent children and youth. This training provides practical, real world strategies to support participation, communication, and positive engagement across recreational environments. Ideal for camp staff and leaders, recreation coordinators, program facilitators, parks and community teams, volunteers, and organizations creating inclusive recreational spaces, this training focuses on helping staff build environments that are responsive to sensory needs, supportive of different communication styles, and grounded in respect, connection, and belonging. This session will guide you through Understanding autism and neurodiversity in recreational environments Supporting participation in group games, transitions, and unstructured activities Sensory experiences in outdoor and high energy settings Regulation in movement based and socially active spaces Communication strategies for fast paced and group interactions Responding to overwhelm, fatigue, and changing environments Creating flexible, inclusive, and adaptive recreation experiences Building trust, connection, and positive peer experiences in shared spaces The estimated time commitment for this online training is approximately 45 to 60 minutes.
