AUTISM CANADA

Message from the President

David Patchell-Evans - President
As President of Autism Canada, I am writing to ask for your help. I believe that as hard as it may be for parents of autistic children to share publicly what life has dealt them, we need to help people where we can.

Autism is a serious global health issue affecting 1 in 150 children and its incidence is on the rise. If this epidemic continues at its current rate, the consequences in human suffering and the costs for Canadian society will be staggering.

Over the last decade there have been some very promising advances in both treatments and research. There are children that have made significant gains and there are also children that have recovered. At the same time there are thousands of children and families who despair of ever having a chance at a more normal life.

As a father of a child who is autistic, my hope is to make it easier for others by achieving two things through Autism Canada.

First, Autism Canada, through its website and conferences, will provide readily accessible information and educational resources on current treatments and research. Finding help should be easy and quick for any parent whose child receives a diagnosis of autism.

Second, Autism Canada will raise funds for research that will give us the answers we need. Our vision of the future is that science will find a way to prevent autism. Until then we will use every resource we have to help these children reach their potential.

I encourage you to support Autism Canada with your donation.

There's hope out there. Together we can do it!

Warmest regards,

Patch
