Autism Canada would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of Gabriel Poirier. Like all Canadians, the reports we are reading give us much concern and leave us deeply saddened. Clearly better guidelines need to be in place for the use of weighted therapeutic blankets but also parents have to be informed and consent to treatments their children receive. If anything good can come of this it is that our governments will take action on this now epidemic health crisis. Not only do we need better guidelines for all treatments but we need research into both the causes and cures.
